How much does an AI receptionist cost in 2026?

Voice AIOct 2026 · 9 min read · Skygnosis Founder

AI receptionist pricing is confusing on purpose. Some providers charge by the minute, some by the call, one by the number of different people who ring you, and several do not publish prices at all. We checked the pricing pages of 12 providers on 6 October 2026, so you can compare like with like. Several do not publish a price, and we say so.

All prices are the providers' own, in US dollars, and change often. Check the pricing page before you sign.

Self-serve AI receptionists

These are built for any small business: sign up, connect a number, describe your business, go live.

  • Rosie: $49/month for 250 minutes, $149 for 1,000 minutes (adds booking and transfers), $299 for 2,000 minutes. Annual billing gives two months free.
  • RingCentral AI Receptionist: from $49/month standalone or $39 as an add-on, each with 100 minutes, then $0.50 per minute.
  • Goodcall: $79, $129 or $249 a month per agent, with unlimited minutes. Instead of minutes it counts unique callers: 100, 250 or 500 included, then $0.50 each.
  • My AI Front Desk: $99/month (or $79 billed annually) for 200 minutes, then about $0.25 per minute.
  • Smith.ai AI Receptionist: free for 25 calls, then $3 per call. Pro starts at $150/month for 75 to 300 calls at $2 per call; Enterprise starts at $500/month for 300 or more calls, about $1.67 per call.

Built into your field service software

If you already run on a field service platform, its own AI receptionist is the easiest start.

  • Jobber: an AI Receptionist add-on at $29/month, on top of a Jobber plan ($29 to $399 a month billed annually). Included minutes are not stated on the pricing page.
  • Housecall Pro: "AI team members" are listed as a feature of its plans ($59 to $299 a month billed annually), with no separate published price.

Industry specialists

These are built for one trade and integrate with its software.

  • Sameday AI (home services): $449/month for 500 minutes across up to 3 locations; $789/month for 1,000 minutes and unlimited locations.
  • Arini (dental): pricing is not published; demo only.
  • Dialpad and Synthflow: sales-led. Synthflow now sells enterprise contracts starting at $30,000 a year.

What a human costs, for comparison

  • Ruby (human receptionists): $250/month for 50 minutes up to $1,725 for 500 minutes, about $3.45 to $5.00 a minute.
  • Smith.ai human receptionists: $300/month for 30 calls up to $2,100 for 300 calls, $7 to $10 a call, with $8.50 to $11.50 overage.
  • An employee: the BLS median for receptionists was $18.27 an hour in May 2025, and $21.53 for customer service representatives. Add payroll taxes, benefits, cover for breaks, evenings and weekends.

How to compare plans that are priced differently

Do the arithmetic on your own call pattern, not the headline price.

Count your calls and minutes. Your phone provider or call tracking tool will show monthly inbound calls and average length. A home services business taking 400 calls a month at 3 minutes each needs about 1,200 minutes.

Price your month on each model. At 1,200 minutes: a $149 plan with 1,000 minutes plus overage, a $789 specialist plan with 1,000 minutes plus overage, or about $670 (Enterprise rate) to $800 (Pro rate) on Smith.ai's per-call plans. The cheapest plan on the pricing page is often not the cheapest for your volume.

Price the integration. The real cost is not the answering; it is what happens next. An agent that books into your actual calendar and writes the job into your field service software saves the call-back. One that only takes a message moves the work, it does not remove it.

When off-the-shelf stops fitting

Off-the-shelf receptionists are the right answer for most small businesses. They stop fitting when:

  • Your scheduling logic is unusual: technician skills, service areas, membership priority or emergency rules the product cannot express.
  • Your systems are not on its integration list: an in-house CRM, an ERP, or a field service tool the product does not support.
  • Your volume is high: at thousands of minutes a month, a custom agent on a voice platform charging around $0.08 to $0.17 a minute can cost less, even after the build.
  • You need it to do more than answer: quote, follow up, chase payments, or hand over to a human with the full context.

That is the work we take on: a voice agent connected to the systems you already run, so the call ends with a booked job and an updated record. For everyone else, pick from the list above and measure booked jobs, not answered calls.

All prices from providers' published pricing pages, checked 6 October 2026: Rosie, RingCentral, Goodcall, My AI Front Desk, Smith.ai, Jobber, Housecall Pro, Sameday AI, Arini, Dialpad, Synthflow, Ruby. An answered call, a booking written to the calendar and a record in the CRM: what you are paying for.

Common questions

How much does an AI receptionist cost per month?

Published prices in October 2026 run from $29 a month (Jobber's add-on, on top of a Jobber plan) and $49 a month (Rosie, 250 minutes; RingCentral, 100 minutes) to $449 to $789 a month for Sameday AI, which specialises in home services. Most small-business plans sit between $79 and $299 a month.

Is an AI receptionist cheaper than an answering service?

Usually by a wide margin. Ruby's human receptionist plans work out at about $3.45 to $5.00 per minute, and Smith.ai's human plans at about $7 to $10 per call within the plan. AI receptionists typically cost $0.25 to $0.50 per minute in overage, or about $1.67 to $3.00 per call on per-call plans.

How does an AI receptionist compare with hiring a receptionist?

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics put the median receptionist wage at $18.27 an hour ($38,010 a year) in May 2025, before payroll taxes and benefits. An AI plan at $150 to $300 a month costs a few thousand dollars a year and answers at 2 a.m., but it does not replace the judgment and relationship work a good front desk does.

What makes AI receptionist pricing go up?

Volume (minutes or calls beyond the plan), locations, integrations with your scheduling or field service software, call transfers to humans, and compliance add-ons such as HIPAA. A custom-built agent adds a one-time build cost but can be cheaper per minute at high volume.
